Tummy Tuck

A tummy tuck is performed to correct a stretched, protruding abdomen and tighten the underlying abdominal muscles. After weight loss or pregnancy, the abdomen can exhibit a significant amount of loose skin and excess tissue. The abdominoplasty has been designed to correct these conditions and provide a slimmer, more attractive midsection.

The aesthetic goals of tummy tuck surgery include tighter skin, a flatter abdomen, fewer stretch marks, and an improved appearance around the navel.

The Abdominoplasty Procedure

The tummy tuck is typically performed under general anesthesia. Incisions are made around the central lower abdomen and navel, skin is removed or lifted, the abdominal muscles are repaired and sutured, and the incisions are then closed. Tummy tuck incisions are often tailored so the patient can easily hide scars beneath clothing.

After Your Tummy Tuck

Immediately after the surgery, gauze dressing is applied and special surgical drains are put in place. Approximately 24 hours after the tummy tuck, patients are encouraged to walk and move about. Prescription pain medications are usually prescribed to manage discomfort during this period. Ask Dr. Leff for specific instructions regarding your post-operative recovery period.
